Florida has been my unwavering #1 team in the nation since the preseason, but a close 2-1 series loss to the defending National Champion South Carolina Gamecocks drops them to #4. If these rankings voted on by a committee rather than a ruthless all-ruling dictator like myself, each of the top 4 teams would have received first place votes. Ultimately I'm going with the Commodores thanks to their road win over Arkansas, who was a top 25 team in their own right until last week.
Next Weekend's Key Matchups:
#20 Clemson @ #16 North Carolina
#24 Oregon @ #5 Arizona State
#22 Oregon State @ #18 Arizona
| Rank | Team | W-L | Last Week | Previous | Comments |
| 1. | Vanderbilt | 22-3 | 1-0 v. Tennessee Tech, 2-1 @ Arkansas | 2 | Dores went into Arkansas and took 2 of 3 against a fringe top 25 team. |
| 2. | South Carolina | 18-5 | 1-0 v. College of Charleston, 1-0 v. Rhode Island, 2-1 @ Florida | 6 | Admittedly, I was slow to get on the South Carolina bandwagon, but the impressive road win against Florida was too much to ignore. |
| 3. | Virigina | 24-2 | 2-0 v. Towson, 3-0 v. Maryland | 3 | Virginia continues to role and Maryland falls to 1-8 in conference play. |
| 4. | Florida | 21-4 | 2-0 v. Winthrop, 1-2 v. South Carolina | 1 | The single run that separated pivotal game three of this series is what separates Florida from #1 to #4. |
| 5. | Arizona State | 17-7 | 1-1 @ Cal State Fullerton, 2-1 v. Arizona | 4 | A combined 3-2 week against Cal State Fullerton and Arizona would go along way for the selection committee if ASU weren't banned from post season play. |
| 6. | Georgia Tech | 21-4 | 1-0 @ Georgia, 3-0 @ Miami | 10 | Mark Pope, Jed Bradley and Buck Farmer have led Georgia Tech to 16 straight victories during which time they've climbed our rankings from #20 to #15 to #10 and now #6. |
| 7. | Texas A&M | 19-5 | 1-0 v. Stephen F. Austin, 3-0 v. Kansas | 8 | Aggies move to 5-1 in conference play as they hold Kansas to 3 runs in 3 games. |
| 8. | Cal State Fullerton | 16-8 | 1-1 v. Arizona State, 4-0 @ Hawaii. | 11 | Titans get a big jump after sweeping Hawaii. Hawaii plays a lot of home games. I suppose I wouldn't want to leave the island either. |
| 9. | Oklahoma | 19-6 | 1-1 v. Missouri, 1-0 v. St. Gregory's | 9 | Like Florida State, the Sooners had a rough week against quality opponents. |
| 10. | Texas | 17-7 | 1-0 v. Houston Baptist, 1-2 v. Oklahoma State | 5 | Texas had a rough time scoring runs against Oklahoma and would have been swept but for a 1-0 15 inning win Friday where the lone run was scored on a steal of home. |
| 11. | Florida State | 18-6 | 0-1 v. Stetson, 2-1 v. Wake Forest | 7 | This team is too good to lose a game to Wake Forest. |
| 12. | Stanford | 10-6 | 1-0 v. US Davis, 1-0 v. Santa Clara, 2-1 v. Long Beach State | 12 | Stanford gets back in the swing of things with a productive week following two weeks off. |
| 13. | Fresno St. | 18-2 | 1-0 v. Ohio State, 3-0 v. San Diego | 18 | Seems like every week someone on this list just swept San Diego. |
| 14. | TCU | 15-8 | 1-0 v. Texas State, 2-1 v. Houston Baptist | 13 | Horned Frogs still struggling to find their identity. |
| 15. | California | 16-6 | 1-0 v. Nevada, 3-0 v. Washington St. | 21 | 4-0 week included three straight shut outs prior to Sunday's 4-3 win. |
| 16. | North Carolina | 23-3 | 1-0 v. UNC Wilmington, 1-0 v. High Point, 3-0 v. Duke | 20 | Tar Heels have been impressive but Clemson next weekend will be their toughest test of the year. |
| 17. | UCLA | 11-8 | 1-1 v. Cal Poly, 2-1 v. USC | 16 | Trevor Bauer posted a 9IP 1H 0ER 2BB 14K line on Saturday. |
| 18. | Arizona | 17-7 | 1-0 v. San Francisco, 1-2 v. Arizona State | 15 | Sophomore ace Kurt Heyer continues to impress with win over Arizona State on Friday. |
| 19. | LSU | 17-7 | 0-1 v. Louisiana-Lafayette, 1-2 v. Georgia | 14 | LSU falls to 1-5 in the SEC. |
| 20. | Clemson | 13-9 | 2-0 v. Elon, 1-2 v. NC State | 19 | The midweek sweep of Elon, a perennial regional team, cannot be ignored dispute weekend series loss to NC State. |
| 21. | Southern Mississippi | 18-5 | 0-1 v. Louisiana Monroe, 2-1 v. Tulane | NR | B.A. Vollmuth and company vault into the top 25 after a strong series win against #22 Tulane. |
| 22. | Oregon State | 18-6 | 1-1 v. Seattle, 2-1 v. UC Santa Barbara | NR | Sam Gaviglio and Josh Osich will make the Beavers a tough weekend opponent all season long. |
| 23. | Baylor | 16-8 | 1-0 v. UT Arlington, 2-1 v. Kansas State | NR | Baylor took a week off from this list following their series loss to Texas Tech last weekend but they're back now. |
| 24. | Oregon | 14-9 | 1-0 v. San Francisco, 2-2 v. Wichita State | 24 | LHP Tyler Anderson continues to impress. Now 4-0 with 1.02 ERA and 59 K in 44.1 IP. |
| 25. | Oklahoma State | 18-6 | 1-0 v. Arkansas Pine Bluff, 1-0 v. Washington, 2-1 v. Texas | NR | Oklahoma State looked better in all facets of the game than Texas this weekend. |
Dropped out: UC Irvine (17), Tulane (22), Rice (23), Auburn (25)
